Visiting the Savoy Automobile Museum

We hit the road to visit the Savoy Automobile Museum in Cartersville, Georgia. The museum is beautiful and all the automotive collections are impressively displayed.  What the museum may lack in quantity it more than makes up for in quality. The Savoy Automotive Museum is constantly rotating out exhibitions so there is always something new to see.

A Visit to the Lane Motor Museum

 There is no denying that the crew at Bubba's Garage likes wacky cars. One of the best museums to get your little car fix at is the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, Tennessee. The museum boasts that they have "the largest European automotive collection in the U.S." This collection includes many one-of-a-kind odd balls that you will find no place else. 

Antique Car Museum at Grovewood Village

We found a nice little antique car museum tucked away in the Grovewood Village in Asheville, North Carolina. It was established in 1966 by Harry Blomberg, of Harry's on the Hill fame, and is now located in a 1923 building once used by the Biltmore Industries' weaving shop. About two dozen vehicles can be seen including a rare '57 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham and a '22 American LaFrance fire truck. It's a nice stop and the admission is free.

Goodbye, Little Cube.

A recent trip on the Blue Ridge Parkway had me sweating bullets when the transmission of our Nissan Cube began to slip. The Parkway is not a good place to break down as there is no shoulder and few places to pull over. Cellphone coverage can be spotty as well. We survived but after doing some research I discovered that the Nissan CVTs are notoriously bad. Our little buddy was still under an extended warranty but we decided to say goodbye to it. We just had too many scheduled trips coming up to be dealing with trying to get it repaired. Great little car; until it wasn't.

Thank goodness for hardcore hotrodders. The Kustom Kemps of America Maggie Valley Icons of Hotrodding Festival show had some bad Saturday morning weather. But, some really nice rides were on the show field despite the rain. While we didn't stay long, I enjoyed talking to everyone and looking at the amazing vehicles.

Road Trip - NC Transportation Museum Train Show

We took the time to explore the grounds of the NC Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC during the annual National Train Day Train Show. Several vintage locomotives were running the day that we were there including Southern Railway FP-3 #6133, Atlantic Coast Line E3 #501, and B&MH H-12-44 #1860.

Checking Out Tuner Evolution in Charlotte, North Carolina

We took a little road trip to Charlotte, North Carolina to snap a few photos of the cars at Tuner Evolution. The Park Expo Center was crazy hot and we were sweating our butts off. The show was much smaller than we expected but the quality of the cars was excellent which made up for all the other issues. We would rate the Tuner Evolution Charlotte show as good but not great.

Hendersonville Cars and Coffee Photos

Over 300 cars showed up early, starting at 8:00 AM, for the recent Hendersonville Cars and Coffee cruise-in. World of Clothing in Hendersonville, NC hosted the event and cars were spread out all across their large parking lot.

White Post Restorations 75th Anniversary Car Show

It's not often a business remains open for 75 years so when White Post Restorations marked that milestone off on the calendar it was time to celebrate. The entire town of White Post, VA turned out to help with the open house and car show. There were tons of things to see and do at this wonderful event.

Road Trip: Visiting the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke, VA

While driving up I-81 near Roanoke, VA we decided to pop on over to the nearby Virginia Museum of Transportation to see what they had to offer. The museum has been housed in the former, 1918 vintage, N&W freight station since 1985 when flood waters destroyed their previous location. It occupies 5.75 acres in downtown Roanoke.

Spending a Saturday Morning at Sled Fest

We once again made the road trip to Duncannon, PA for Sled Fest.  This show has grown to capacity in just a few short years. It is held near the Old Sled Works which was the home to the Lightning Guider manufacturing facility. The show is opened to all pre '72 vehicles but if you want a parking spot plan on being there early. The Hooligans Car Club does a good job of parking cars to maximize the use of the small lot.

We braved the bitter cold and snow squalls to do some shopping at the Sugarloaf Mountain Region AACA Swap Meet. Held at the Carroll County Agriculture Center, this swap meet is now in its 45th year.

Hot Rods on the Infield - The Rodder's Journal Revival

The Rodder's Journal Vintage Speed and Custom Car Show Revival is a must do annual event held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. It is open to pre-1966 hot rods, customs, and competition cars. The guys and gals from Bubba's Garage took a road trip to cover their 3rd Annual event.

Charles Town Car Show Photos

Labor Day weekend started off in grand fashion as Charles Town, WV closed the streets in order to have their 6th Annual Car Show. Every year this show gets bigger and better. The organizers do a fantastic job of getting everyone parked on the downtown streets and it is spread out enough that you don't feel too crowded.

Inside the National Auto and Truck Museum - Auburn, IN

The National Auto and Truck Museum, or NATMUS, is located in the former factory buildings of the Auburn Automobile Company. These buildings were used as a service center and for prototyping Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg automobiles. Now it houses a nice collection of various makes and models of cars and trucks.

Every so often you come across a museum that really gets your emotions flowing; a car guy's paradise. This was how I felt after visiting the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum in Auburn, Indiana. The word "wow" was about all I could say when I stepped into the Art Deco Original Company Showroom on the first floor of the administration building.

Traveling the Lincoln Highway - Day 3 Crestline, OH to Schererville, IN

Sunday (Easter Sunday) finds us traveling through the rest of Ohio and Indiana on the Lincoln Highway. Since most places are closed on Sunday we figure we would just take in the scenery for the day. We don't have to drive very long before finding Lincoln Highway history in the form of a pair of brick monuments honoring LHA Vice President Austin Bement and LHA Local Consul J. F. McMahon in Crestline, Ohio.

A Visit to the Canton Classic Car Museum

What would a road trip on the Lincoln Highway be without visiting a car museum?  Just a few minutes off of the Lincoln is the Canton Classic Car Museum in Canton, Ohio. The museum is housed in a former 1914 Ford car dealership and displays car memorabilia, vintage cars, and a good dose of cheese.

It's not often that you get the chance to hang out with one of the world's best hotrod metal shapers, Craig Naff. Add to that the fact that Ron Covell, a fantastic metal fabricator and instructor, would be teaching a class in Craig's shop and you have the potential for a fantastic Saturday. I made the drive over to Craig's shop on the outskirts of Woodstock, VA early in the morning using Ron Covell's Basic Metal Shaping class as an excuse to get out of the house.

Checking out the new cars at the AACA Museum

You never know what you might find at the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum in Hershey, PA. The vehicles on display are always changing so you get to see new things on almost every trip. Bubba's Garage was in the neighborhood recently so we decided to see what the museum had brought in for the summer. The first car that peaked our interest was a green 1932 Ford Roadster. The "Ricky Nelson Roadster" was seen in the '50s "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" TV show.
