Attending the Waynesville Christmas Parade

Local businesses and organizations gather together each year to celebrate Christmas during the annual Christmas Parade in Waynesville, NC. This year all the available spaces were filled, and the parade lasted well into the night. What a great way to start the holiday season.

A Trip to the Carolinas Dahlia Society Show

The Carolinas Dahlia Society's annual show was held at the Haywood County Extension office in Waynesville, North Carolina. The free show was open to the public Saturday afternoon and we went to see all the different dahlia flowers that were being judged. It was a beautiful with various colors, sizes, and varieties of dahlias on hand.

Gnome Pottery Class with Laurey-Faye Dean

We are always looking for something different to do. So, when we saw our friend Laurey-Faye of Hazelwood Pottery was hosting a gnome pottery class we signed up. Laurey-Faye is an excellent instructor. She gave us the basics and encouraged everyone to be creative and just have a good time. When we were finished with our creations, she gathered up all the gnomes to be fired in her kiln at her home studio. A few weeks later, we had the end results of a wonderful class.

Wienermobile Visits Waynesville

Hotdoggers, Clara and Shelby, brought out one of the six Oscar Mayer Wienermobiles to Waynesville, NC. A good time was had by all as we spun the prize wheel for some Oscar Mayer swag. I was able to add another whistle and a bag to my collection. These icons on wheels always bring a smile to my face.

The YardFathers Build a Wall

We brought the YardFathers, out of Leicester, North Carolina, back to do phase 2 of our hardscape renovations to the gardens. They did such a good job on our patio, firepit, and steps that we felt comfortable having them replace our failing railroad tie retaining wall. After a slight delay in getting the engineering drawings and permits, it only took them a day to rip out the old wall.

Hardscape Improvements in Waynesville, NC

Since we are not taking a vacation this year due to COVID, we thought we would schedule some updates to the homestead. Back in February of this year, we contacted The YardFathers from Leicester, NC and got on their schedule for some hardscape improvements. After some weather and material delays, equipment began arriving on May 18 and work began. The work had four parts: a patio, a firepit, steps, and grass pavers.

Comet NEOWISE from the Blue Ridge Parkway

We took a trip to the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway, to get away from the town lights, in order to see comet NEOWISE. It was great to watch the sunset and just relax. 

A Shelton House Christmas

We stopped by the Shelton House in Waynesville, North Carolina for their Christmas gathering. The house was open for tours and we got to say hello to the head elf himself. We enjoyed some cookies and cider as well. It was a good way to kill half an hour.

New Floor by Cook's Carpet and Flooring

Peg spent her bonus money this year on getting new engineered wood flooring for the first floor. We had Cook's Carpet and Flooring of Waynesville rip out the old ugly laminate flooring and replace it with Palmetto Road's "Keowee". It's a hand-scrapped birch in three different widths. It took the crew two days to finish but they did a very nice job. We will keep them in mind when we decide to upgrade other parts of the house.

We were blessed with a beautiful rainbow over our downtown in Waynesville, North Carolina today.

WNC Early Snow Storm

An early Winter snowstorm dumped more than ten inches of wet, heavy snow around our neighborhood. Many trees were damaged and there were plenty of power outages. It also was very pretty and eerily quiet.

Folkmoot Parade of Nations

Another weekend, another parade. It seems like there is something happening almost every weekend in downtown Waynesville during the Summer. This Saturday morning we were treated to the Folkmoot Parade of Nations.

Waynesville Fourth of July Children's Parade

Living in a small town has its perks. There is always something going on downtown. This morning we walked downtown to enjoy the youngsters parading down Main Street for the annual July 4th Children's Parade. The kids all seemed to be having fun and it was great to get out and be with our neighbors.

Waynesville - A Night Before Christmas

Every year on the second Saturday of December Waynesville, North Carolina closes down Main Street for their "A Night Before Christmas" celebration. It is a small town get-together to usher in the Christmas season.

Block Party in Waynesville

As we walked to Downtown Waynesville we could hear the first of three bands that were playing on Main Street during the Waynesville Block Party. Main Street was closed to car traffic and the The Dirty Soul Revival was cranking out some jammin' rock tunes.
