Getting Phat at The Bicycle Escape

If you are looking for a new bicycle in the Washington, DC area head over to The Bicycle Escape in Fredrick, MD. The guys and gals in the shop are absolutely a pleasure to deal with. They are also the area’s Phat Cycles dealer. What is a Phat Cycle? Phat Cycles is a manufacturer of some of the coolest beach cruisers and comfort bikes around.

We ordered two of these from the good people at The Bicycle Escape. After doing a bunch of research on how to transport the bikes and which bike rack would work the best, we settled on the mounting system from Top Line Manufacturing. Beach cruisers are tough to transport because of their fenders and wide handle bars. We purchased two single bars (UG2500-1) online rather than try and use the multi-bike configuration that is available. This worked perfectly in the back of our Ford F-150.

Peg’s bike was the most impressive of the two. She chose the Aloha Mahalo in Pearl White with Beach Glass Blue trim in a 3-speed configuration. The bike is beautiful and colorful. The saddle is stitched with flowers in a gold thread that matches the rims. A neat safety feature of her bike is a set of rear facing marker lights that are motion activated.

We plan on riding our Phat Cycles up and down the C&O bike path near Harpers Ferry, WV and Brunswick, MD. If you see us say, “Hi”. And if you want a Phat Cycle of your own then go visit The Bicycle Escape!

  2. The bikes are indeed cool, Jamie. They take a little getting used to since you aren't leaning forward like on a traditional bike. Oh and then there is the coaster brake thingie....

NCL Norwegian Pearl Cruise to Alaska - The Haven Courtyard

If you ever have a chance to sail to Alaska, do it! If you can save up a little more to be able to stay in The Haven Courtyard on Norwegian Cruise Lines, do it! For our anniversary Peg and I decided we would take our first cruise to Alaska. NCL sales called us, last minute, and offered us a deal to upgrade to a penthouse in The Haven Courtyard aboard the Norwegian Pearl. We did and it was fantastic! The Bird of Paradise Courtyard Suite Room 14014 (an S5 level penthouse suite) would be our home for the seven day cruise which started in Seattle, Washington.

Hendersonville Cars and Coffee Photos

Over 300 cars showed up early, starting at 8:00 AM, for the recent Hendersonville Cars and Coffee cruise-in. World of Clothing in Hendersonville, NC hosted the event and cars were spread out all across their large parking lot.

Photos from Craig Naff's Hotrod Body Shop with Ron Covell

It's not often that you get the chance to hang out with one of the world's best hotrod metal shapers, Craig Naff. Add to that the fact that Ron Covell, a fantastic metal fabricator and instructor, would be teaching a class in Craig's shop and you have the potential for a fantastic Saturday. I made the drive over to Craig's shop on the outskirts of Woodstock, VA early in the morning using Ron Covell's Basic Metal Shaping class as an excuse to get out of the house.
