Fall Color in Shannondale, WV

I often get asked why I travel so far to work each day. The answer is very simple.  I love where I live. Shannondale is a fairly quiet community positioned between the Appalachian Trail and the Shenandoah River. The roads aren’t very good and you pretty much have to drive 15 minutes to the nearby city of Charles Town if you need anything. But, what it does have is natural beauty. The couple weeks of color during Fall are one of my most favorite times of the year.

Shannondale is lucky enough to have a 55 acre private man-made lake. As long as you don’t hangout too long (or try to fish) you can grab a quick photograph or two. To do it right, you can enjoy the lake from The Lake House where you can get a basic meal or even rent a canoe. Club memberships are also available but the price is a bit steep.

Our house is about halfway up the mountain. Having friends that live even higher up on the Blue Ridge Mountains allows us to enjoy the views of the valley. We were hoping to catch a few shots of a nice sunset on a recent visit but Mother Nature didn’t feel like cooperating on this night. Still, not a bad view at all.

NCL Norwegian Pearl Cruise to Alaska - The Haven Courtyard

If you ever have a chance to sail to Alaska, do it! If you can save up a little more to be able to stay in The Haven Courtyard on Norwegian Cruise Lines, do it! For our anniversary Peg and I decided we would take our first cruise to Alaska. NCL sales called us, last minute, and offered us a deal to upgrade to a penthouse in The Haven Courtyard aboard the Norwegian Pearl. We did and it was fantastic! The Bird of Paradise Courtyard Suite Room 14014 (an S5 level penthouse suite) would be our home for the seven day cruise which started in Seattle, Washington.

Photos from Craig Naff's Hotrod Body Shop with Ron Covell

It's not often that you get the chance to hang out with one of the world's best hotrod metal shapers, Craig Naff. Add to that the fact that Ron Covell, a fantastic metal fabricator and instructor, would be teaching a class in Craig's shop and you have the potential for a fantastic Saturday. I made the drive over to Craig's shop on the outskirts of Woodstock, VA early in the morning using Ron Covell's Basic Metal Shaping class as an excuse to get out of the house.
