The crew made a road trip down to Atlanta, Georgia to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens for their Garden Lights, Holiday Lights display. It was a beautiful evening to get out and enjoy some Christmas lights with friends. The crowds weren't too bad and we were able to spread out and take our time. We also enjoyed some adult beverages of Peanut butter whiskey hot chocolate and Garden Beer #8. This event will certainly be added to our short list of Christmas shows to attend each year.

Photos from the NC Arboretum Winter Lights
The North Carolina Arboretum opened up its grounds once again for the Winter Lights event. Peg and I decided to drive over to Asheville and check it out. It's fairly small but nicely laid out. All the workers were very cheerful and did their best to make the evening enjoyable. We spent maybe an hour walking the grounds and decided this is a Christmas event that won't be an every year visit but certainly worth doing at least once.
The YardFathers Build a Wall
We brought the YardFathers, out of Leicester, North Carolina, back to do phase 2 of our hardscape renovations to the gardens. They did such a good job on our patio, firepit, and steps that we felt comfortable having them replace our failing railroad tie retaining wall. After a slight delay in getting the engineering drawings and permits, it only took them a day to rip out the old wall.
A Trip to Oakes Daylilies
Road Trip! We piled into the Jeep and made or way to Corryton, Tennessee for the Oakes Daylilies' daylily festival. Oakes Daylilies' show garden is nice but you had better plan on doing some other activities while in the area since it is rather small. Plants were available for purchase and there were enough varieties to be interesting. We order many daylilies from Oakes for around the garage so it was nice to see were they are grown.
Hardscape Improvements in Waynesville, NC
Since we are not taking a vacation this year due to COVID, we thought we would schedule some updates to the homestead. Back in February of this year, we contacted The YardFathers from Leicester, NC and got on their schedule for some hardscape improvements. After some weather and material delays, equipment began arriving on May 18 and work began. The work had four parts: a patio, a firepit, steps, and grass pavers.
Photos from the 2021 Atlanta Air Show
We took a road trip down to Peachtree City, Georgia for the 2021 Atlanta Air Show. The Atlanta Regional Airport - Falcon Field is home to the Commemorative Air Force and is a nice airport for an air show. It is small enough that you can get pretty close to the flight line to watch the aircraft. A mix of prop aircraft and jets took to the skies but the show was shorter than what we are used to experiencing. We still enjoyed watching the show and were happy to be able to get outside for the day.
The Depot Railroad Avenue Park
We set off to find our donation brick at the Depot Railroad Avenue Park in Brevard, North Carolina. This cute little facility's design is inspired by the actual depot that was once nearby. It's a great place to take a break when in Brevard.
