I don't know about you but I have always loved a good parade. American Celebration on Parade at Shenandoah Caverns is just a couple of minutes off I-81 at exit 269. Here you will find more than 30 floats from Thanksgiving parades, Presidential Inaugurals, the Rose Parade, and many others. All the floats are from the collection of Earl Hargrove, owner of Shenandoah Caverns and Hargrove, Inc., and are on display in the 40,000 square foot exhibition hall.
Outside of the museum you will find several large props. You have to take the time to pose with the giant Cootie!
Standing guard to the entrance of the museum is a large replica of the Statue of Liberty.
Inside is where the magic happens. Everywhere that you look are colorful floats and various props from parades and political events. The place was deserted when we were there so we could run around and enjoy ourselves without feeling rushed.
Several of the floats are animated like this one of playful polar bears. Just find the button and push!
Mr. Hargrove's Maryland based company has been providing services to every Presidential Inaugural since 1949 so you know you are going to see a few items from these on display.
When you have had your fill of "I remember that one" you can head out the exit and be treated to a nice little train display. Oh, and more buttons to push.
If you love parade floats then American Celebration on Parade allows you to get up close to the history and is a good way to kill 30 minutes or so.
