During the Cass Railfan Weekend, in West Virginia, The Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad ran a Limited Special Diesel Excursion from Cheat Bridge to High Falls. The Cheat Bridge stop is just that; a stop. There is no real parking and just a shed where we boarded. A few photo runbys and we were off in route to the High Falls.
Pulling the passenger cars were a couple of Electro Motive Division (EMD) FP7A engines: Western Maryland #67 and Western Maryland #243. The railroad calls this train the New Tygart Flyer.
We were lucky to have a freight train following us up the mountain to give something different to photograph. Baltimore & Ohio #6641 is an EMD GP9.
Our turn around point was the High Falls near Glady, WV. The High Falls are a 150' wide natural fall that cascades 20' to a pool below.
The train ride was scenic as it traveled next to the Cheat River for much of the trip.
