We took a little timeout to visit the Danville Science Center’s Butterfly Station in downtown Danville, VA on Saturday. This enclosed outdoor flower garden is setup to showcase flowering plants that attract butterflies. Several different varieties of butterflies were flittering around during our visit. I was using a Tamron SP AF 60mm F/2 Di II Macro on my Nikon D300 to capture these photos. 60mm is way too small to be chasing bugs with; I need a longer macro lens.
Have you ever tried to photograph a bee in flight? It’s not easy. This was the best photo I was able to get of this bee who seemed to be guarding the path to the Butterfly Station.
One of Peg’s favorite landmarks along I-81 is the Endless Caverns sign on the side of the Blue Ridge Mountains. She calls it “the Hollywood sign of the East Coast.” I snapped this photo while at a rest stop.
